Day 17 - Spontaneity

So yesterday I only played 1 set. yay, -50. Yay, -700 straight now. But, the good side, went to get a professional massage and omfg it was so nice. On the way back, a little craziness broke out and before I knew it I had made plans to go to San Diego to visit abarone68. For those of you who don't know, dude is legit. PokerVT instructor, sng megastar imho, and the guy who taught me poker from day 1. Apparently I use to raise 10x with small pairs - who knew?

So I started packing my stuff together and got on Expedia (*dooot cooom* in choir voices) to find a plane ticket. I called up Aaron, let him know the ticket was only $330, and it was on. He said he'd call me back in 20 minutes after he finished his set to verify the times for the flight. Well, 20 minutes later the ticket price was $480 so F that no thx. So the next idea was to take a train. Bah, I'll just drive. But I had to fix my car battery, so I packed up to drive to a Pep boys and get it replaced. I jump started my car outside, took off, and, crap...made it to the stop sign down the block before my car went dead. So my girlfriend and I had to jump start the car again, but this time it wouldn't turn on at all. We ended up pushing it down the street back in front of my place. Jeez, and pushing it up a slight slant in the road is SO hard. I drive (or drove :/) a Jeep Grand Cherokee so it's a pretty hefty POS. We ended up getting it done in about 30 minutes and all we traveled was about 300 feet. What a night.

Still inspired to go to San Diego, I bought a train ticket for a 7 hour ride that left last night around 10pm. I arrived in SD at about 5:45am this morning and then walked more than 12 blocks to Aaron's place b/c "[his] car was blocked in" blah blah blah. I had a fat rolling suitcase with my computer inside and a pillow with my monitor shoved in there for protection. Wow, monitors are a pain in the ass to carry uphill.

When I finally got to his place, we set out on a mission. Play, non stop, play. I mean, we took breaks and played some HU every once in a while. Got fat coolered on a board of AQ2x5 where I had AA vs his 43o and got it in on the river. Mother f****r. But hopefully this is the beginning of the turn around. I've made 900 today (woot) and Aaron has made about the same. We've almost raked in 2k combined in <14 hrs of playing. Have I done anything differently? Eh, not really. One huge thing though, I tossed my HUD. At least for now, I'm just not using HUD and I will trust myself (more than normal) and not let stats influence my decisions. I will be playing tons of games while I'm here, and plan on leaving on Wednesday. So until then, I'll be trying really hard to get back on top of this bet.

One more thing...the day before I left - even before thinking "hey, I'm going to SD" - I had some Chinese food. I opened my fortune cookie and thought "plz say 'you will run at expectation,' plz say 'you will run at expectation." Even though most cookie messages are incredibly vague, mine actually made some sense. It says, "The project you have in mind will soon gain momentum." So, one of two things is going to happen very soon. I will make a run at the most epic come from behind victory...or I will officially disprove Chinese culture.
