Book Update

So I am very hard at work with this book. I'm writing until my fingers swell up. Hopefully, it will end up being decently long. My goal is somewhere near 100 pages, but it is hard to translate microsoft word page length to actual book length.

I am still unsure about some specifics about the book, but pretty soon I will be posting a list of all the chapters along with a short description of each one.

One person asked:
I'm hoping you'll send it to bookdepository.co.uk or some website of that kind so that I can buy it in Europe !
Got any ideas of where/how it'll be sold?

I've never heard of bookdepository, but I'll look into it. My original idea was to go paperback and just mail out copies to any country. But, of course, I'm not sure how shipping works on those. It shouldn't be too outlandish of a price.

What I'm proud of for this book is that nothing is held back. I've spent a lot of time (and still do) compiling the best things to write about and taking pictures of the best hands I see while coaching so I can have the best possible examples in the book.

I'm excited about its release (still unknown date). But I would estimate a couple months.

Writing A Book

Hey, Everyone. Hope you all are having a great start to the 2012 year!

I'm happy to officially announce that I am writing a poker book. I'm really excited about it. It offers quality information and will be an entertaining read. Most importantly, the book will really help you grow as a player and make you much more profitable no matter what poker-stage you are in.

This is not a book full of charts. This book will teach you how to think NOT how to copy a shove/fold script. Learning the information and understanding it can drastically increase your earnings.

The book is a compilation of the best things that I've learned over the years from playing and from coaching. I've coached somewhere near 150 different players over the years, and heard a lot of different perspectives on playing. I've learned what works and what doesn't work - not only in playing but in teaching. I've found the best ways to explain concepts to players and teach them how to improve. The very best of these are all being nicely organized into this book.

I really look forward to sharing it with you guys.

More details about the release date, price, and chapter titles/content will be available soon.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below or email me at Glitlr@sngprotege.com.

Dodibacsi

A big congrats to dodibacsi who went from huge wins to start his poker career, to very long breakeven, to slightly winning, to MEGA winning.

His journey carried from $35 180 mans to tons of time in 18 mans. He then transitioned back to 180s, mostly the 2s, 3s, and 8s. But this time, with a new head on his shoulders, he rose to the occasion and triumphed.

Dodi is one of the best students with whom I've worked. And a pretty damn nice guy too.

Here's some of the highlights from working with Dodi...

Dodi: "I just lost 500, should I stop?"
Me: "No."
[4 hours later]
Dodi: "Just won 3 180s"

Dodi: "I'm getting iso'd tonight."

For those of you in the know, you know that iso-shoving means getting drunk.

Also, let's start a new thing on twitter using my favorite thing from Dodi. Any time you think something is dumb, poker or not, you say "wadafuk." This is Dodi's term.

Check out this graph.

Congrats sir!

Wedding & Honeymoon (Part I)

Most blog posts of any poker player are properly poker related. In this blog entry, you will get minimal poker references and mostly nothing but cheesy awesomeness about the wedding and the honeymoon with my wife Breanna.

A brief precursor...
April 15, 2011 Black Friday.
April 15 - May 28 Mega freak out over poker.
May 28, 2011 Move into a new house.
Wow, exact date? ruh roh. Purpose to girlfriend.
November 5, 2011 The wedding.

The wedding was 100% awesome. Unfortunately, it rained. Many, including the lady who helped me rent my Tux, insist that rain represents good luck and fortune in marriage. But coming from a very logical poker philosophy I can't help but assume that sunshine represents bad luck. So to the vast majority of people who get married in beautiful weather, apparently you're SOL. The employee at The Men's Wearhouse (Suit store) didn't find that too amusing. Sorry mang.

The wedding began at 4pm in the afternoon and after dreading the rain, it finally came. The hour by hour forecast did say it would start raining at 4pm (really? the exact hour?!?!) and it actually started to rain at 3:50pm. Sigh. Ty outdoor weddings.

The positive side was that we prepared for the rain and had canopies prepared just in case. It didn't rain too hard until later in the night, but since we moved the reception mostly indoors it was okay after all.

The wedding was fairly small, just family and a few life long friends. Traditionally, the wedding is "supposedly" paid for by the bride's parents. I don't know where this tradition comes from. Sigh #2. lol.

The ceremony was beautiful and went very well. Having tons of family around is really a special thing. Seeing all the people you love sitting in front of you is pretty cool. Even if they are all sitting under a giant canopy.

After the "I do's" we took a bunch of wedding photos with our wonderful photographer Danielle Albini. Who is this? Here's the quick story written in third person.

Matt plays poker
Matt becomes coach
Matt coaches dude named Travis Albini (tbini87)
Travis wins a lot
Matt and Travis find out they live relatively close
Matt and Travis hang out
Travis introduces Matt and Breanna to his wife Danielle
Danielle does baller pictures
Danielle does Matt and Breanna's Engagement Photos
Danielle takes pics at the wedding

Oh, and solid brag, Travis turned his $75 coaching investment into $15,000 which he used to buy his wife a car. Boom.

The pictures are still being worked on, and my wife and I are very excited. Here is one picture we have already that Danielle showed us as a teaser:).

After the photos, we went inside to visit, eat dinner, drink a few beers, eat cake, watch a tear-jerking slide show my dad made (aweeesome), and dance.

I could go on forever and write tons, but this seems like enough for now. Part II coming soon.

Poker Coaching: World Record

I think I've firmly established a world record this month in the world of poker coaching. This isn't a brag, this is more of a "dang I have a sore throat."

Before the month is over, I will have logged 60 coaching sessions this month. Even though I can't play poker, you better believe I still know what I'm doing. Heck, in my humble opinion, I am way better now than I ever was when I could play. I owe the majority of this to a lot of the players I have been coaching. I learn from them every day.

I work a 9-5 job doing what I do. In all actuality, it's 830-530ish, but who's counting? But it's not even all the coaching that keeps me going during these hours (minus a lunch break in the middle). I am constantly active all day.

So many people ask, what do you do now that you can't play? Here is what an average day looks like for me.

730am Wake Up
830am Emails & Website Logistics or Coaching #1 on days it applies
1000am Coaching #1 or 2 (or webinar on Fridays)
1130am Coaching #2 or 3
100pm Lunch
200pm Coaching #3 or 4
330pm Coaching #4 or 5
500pm Emails & Website Logistics
530pm Finish I hope

Then my soon-to-be-wife comes home, we eat dinner, perhaps take the dogs on a walk, watch some TV, and do it all over again the next day.

At this point, if online poker was legalized, I don't even think I'd consider playing it.

Well, it's just about 330pm, time for coaching session #4 with my man Paul Chen!!
